What is a Mold Test or Inspection?

A mold inspection is the process of identifying and assessing mold growth in a building. The test(s) are performed by a NAMRI certified Mold Inspector. The inspector will take air samples, pull tape samples or swab and send the samples off to the lab to be evaluated.  The lab will send back a report detailing the types of mold found and the spore count. This report is valuable because it will help you decide what steps need to be taken, and how urgent it is.

If you are concerned about mold, it is important to contact us as soon as you can. Left unchecked, mold can grow rapidly and the costs of remedy and remediation will grow accordingly. Fill out the contact form below or give us a call at 985-705-3575 and we'll see what we can do to help.

You should consider a mold test if:

  • You have seen visible mold growth on your walls or ceilings or other areas such as under the bathroom or kitchen sink.
  • You or your family memebers have experienced respiratory problems, such as coughing, sneezing, or difficulty breathing or any other health problems that may be related to mold exposure. If you are in a different location for a day or two and feel better, then your symptoms return when you return, this is a good indication that you may have mold.
  • You have allergies or asthma that seem to be worse when you are indoors.
  • You have recently had water damage in your home or business.
  • You are in the process of buying a new home and have concerns that there may be hidden mold.

What is MOLD?

Molds are types of fungus that are common in nature. Molds can grow in damp areas under the right conditions. It is common to find mold in homes and businesses, especially in our warm, humid climate here in the South. Walls, ceilings, under sinks in bathrooms and the kitchen, in attic and crawlspaces, if these areas have water damage, high humidity and/or poor ventilation, mold can begin to grow.

There are over 100,000 different types of mold, and around 100 of them can be harmful. Molds can be almost any color, not just black or green, and color doesn't determine what species it is. Testing is the only way to determine what type of mold you have so proper steps can be taken to remedy and remediate.

Mold can cause a variety of health problems, including respiratory issues, allergies, and asthma. It is important to have a mold inspection done if you suspect that there is mold in your home or business.
